Happy Mothers Day : a message to Mom

By the way, although it seems to take forever to download, I just love your blog. Watch your spelling. Edit carefully before you press the ok button!”

I received an e mail from Mom today as I have numerous times in the past. She is one of my biggest fans and is always checking my grammar and spelling for errors. I will be the first to admit that spelling and proper grammar is not my fortay. As you read my posts please don’t cringe as you come across bad phrases, poor English and blatant spelling errors. I’m a dam photographer….not an English major. I look forward to the day Mom breaks down and purchases high speed internet. I’ll actually be able to call her and not get her answering machine as she waits for the blog to load. Happy Mothers Day….Love Ya Mom….your the best!

Tara & Mike : life is beautiful

What a great session I had with Tara and Mike a little over a week ago. I met them at their home and shot a few images as they sat in the tastefully decorated kitchen. After returning from Brazil a week earlier and drinking some of the best coffee I have ever savored…… it didn’t take me long to spot the gleaming pro cappuccino machine tucked into the corner of the kitchen. After enjoying my double espresso off we went. Tara and Mike did not need much direction and were a fun loving couple to shoot. The wedding will be a blast! ….stay tuned

Jeremy & Joyce in the City Of Love

trips.jpg

It has been a crazy past few months with trips all over this beautiful planet. This Saturday Chantal and I will be flying to Paris France to photograph Jeremy & Joyce’s engagement/love story. The last time I visited France was in 1997 to photograph the wedding of Emmanuelle and Anthony Polito. The Polito wedding was in Luc Ser Mer Normandy and was spectacular. After the wedding and before I returned to Canada I had two full days in Paris. Two days was not enough time to take in all that Paris offers. The big difference on this trip is that we are in the city for a full week and we are 100% digital…. no film!! We are looking forward to this last trip before the busy wedding season ahead, and will finish off the 2008 year with a wedding in Jamaica. Stay tuned for some smok’in shots from the CITY OF LOVE

check out the Camera I was using….a Mamiya C330. This camera rocked in it’s day and produced some spectacular 40×40 prints but is no match for quality to the digital equipment i currently use. I am producing 40×60 prints that are as good as anything my Hasselblad or Mamiya produced…..my have times changed. Including the colour of my hair.

Tommy Boy - disturbing phone art

After sitting down at my computer this morning I proceeded to check my e mails. It would appear that Tommy Boy has had some free time on his drive into Toronto. I believe these photos may have been taken during the TTC strike although I can’t confirm that. What I do know is that each of the titled images are disturbing in there own way. It’s sad, but I am slowly seeing the daily commute into work taking a toll on my brothers thought process. He is becoming confused and mentally deranged.

Hang in there Tommy…you’ll be able to retire soon.

Back From Brasil - Fotografar 08 Convention

 brasil.jpg

Sao Paulo Brazil is the largest city in Brazil and fifth in the world by population. It is also the richest city of Brazil. The name means Saint Paul in Portuguese.

From Toronto International the flight took approximately nine hours but was worth every second once we arrived. I had the pleasure of speaking at the largest Photographic convention in Brazil to over 900 photographers. It was a very humbling experience to speak with such a receptive audience. At the completion of my talk I received a standing ovation. A first at the Paulisto Da Foto Convention! What stood out for me was that the Brazilian photographers are so thankful and appreciative for knowledge. Attendees came from as far away as the Amazon. Chantal and I met so many people and thank all those that took time out of their busy schedules to attend. We have been invited back for 2009 and are in the planning stages of taking fifty photographers along with a bride and groom for a shoot on the streets of a nearby quaint town, followed the next day with in class Photoshop techniques and work flow. Should be an exciting time. Carlos and Leopoldo of FHOX magazine were exceptional hosts, arranging a tour of the city along with taking us to some of the finest restaurants in Sao Paulo. Thank you for your excellent hospitality.

Two other photographers from the United States also made the trip. John Solano is a Los Angeles based photographer who’s lens has captured the images of numerous celebrities throughout the years including Andre Agassi , Brooke Shields, Slash of Guns ‘n Roses, Tracey Gold and recently the marriage of Brittany Spears and many others at a wide variety of events. John Solano is a NikonNet “Legends Behind the Lens” featured photographer.

Brian Marcus along with his dad Andy Marcus also attended the event. Brian held a workshop on the streets of Sao Paulo and from what I heard was a great success. Andy is a Canon Explorer Of Light and has continued the family business from a studio in New York. As the President of Fred Marcus Studio, Andy has established a clientele comprised of the most prominent families and business leaders in the country. Their strong loyalty, that spans generations, is derived from an ethic of non-compromising quality and customized service. Marcus has photographed the weddings of Eddie Murphy, Donald Trump, Mary Tyler Moore, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, Billy Baldwin and Chynna Phillips and the daughter of Mario Cuomo, former Governor of New York State.

Las Vegas Baby - Wedding & Portrait Photographers International

Chantal and I have attended WPPI, the professional photography convention and trade show featuring education and networking. With over 11,000 registrations it was the biggest year ever. I do my daily gig at the Photodex booth and for the remainder of the trade show hours Chantal and I tour the trade show floor looking for new and inventive ways to enhance our wedding package. It was great to meet a number of photographers that have e mailed me in the past, and to have spent a few hours shooting with Adam from Moving Images Photo located in Toronto Ontario Canada. Adam photographed Chantal and I last fall (see below) and it is one of our favorite shots of the two of us. His current site does not do justice for his imagery although I do know that he is working on releasing a new site soon.

Adam has helped me out on a number of weddings and is a solid shooter always raising the bar for better, stronger images. Adam, Chantal and I paid a visit to the “Las Vegas Sign” that I’m sure has been photographed more then any landmark out there.

We also had a great visit with Max and Vera from Photoidentities. We joined them for dinner in Billageo at a noodle restaurant but I can’t remember the name. The highlight of the dinner was watching Max eat a plate of warm Soy Beans. What the hell is that! Max and Vera are always a blast to hang with and hopefully we will hook up with them again at Imaging USA.

Sherry & Brad - engagement shoot

I met Sherry and Brad at the beginning of this week and off we went to capture a few shots. I always enjoy these photo sessions , as it is a good time to watch how the couples interact. It’s a great way to have the couple feel comfortable on their wedding day in front of the camera. Shooting the BIG DAY will be no problem….Sherry and Brad relaxed and fell into the groove. Good job guys!

Brad is a corrections officer and I bombarded him with a million “so what the hell goes on in there” questions. Interesting profession but I think I’ll stick to photography. Sherry and Brad are tying the knot May 31st 2008 .

Kate & Caley - República de Panamá

Panama, officially the Republic of Panama is the southernmost country of Central America. Situated on an a narrow strip of land that is bordered on two sides by water, some categorize it as a transcontinental nation connecting the north and south part of America. It borders Costa Rica to the north-west, Columbia to the south-east, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. It is an international business center and is also a transit country. In Central America, it is the most industrialized country. Although Panama is also the 3rd largest economy in Central America, after Guatemala and Costa Rica, it has by far the most developed economy and has the largest expenditure on resource consumption, making the country the largest consumer in Central America.

The resort was just down the beach from Manuel Noriega’s beach house. The house was accessible from the back and was overgrown with weeds. It was quite the place in it’s time with views from the roof top bar that overlooked the ocean and surrounding land.

On 20th of December 1989, twenty-seven thousand U.S. personnel invaded Panama in order to remove Manuel Noriega. A few hours before the invasion, in a ceremony that took place inside a U.S. military base in the former Panama Canal Zone, Guillermo Endara was sworn in as the new President of Panama. The invasion occurred ten years before the Panama Canal administration was to be turned over to Panamanian authorities. During the fighting, approximately 4000 Panamanians, mostly civilians, were killed.

Noriega surrendered to the American military shortly after, and was taken to Florida to be formally extradited and charged by USA Federal authorities on drug and racketeering charges. He became eligible for parole on September 9th 2007 , but remained in custody while his lawyers fought an extradition request from France. Critics have pointed out that many of Noriega’s former allies still remain in power in Panama.

Kate and Caley’s wedding was a blast! It took a few minutes for Caley to get into the whole picture taking groove but once he became comfortable in front of the camera the magic started. I think they secretly had been practicing the dip. Chantal and I really enjoyed shooting Kate and Caley’s romantic wedding and I have attached a few of the images taken during our visit. Stay tuned for the Epic Love Story Slideshow…..coming soon to a TV near you.
